Default Spindle nut size?

Does any one know the spindle size (threads) on a Scout II Dana 44 front axle.
I would like to buy a spindle remover for a slide hammer puller.
Sorry I know I said nut in the title, but I actually need the spindle size.
Thanks
Ron

The threads are the same as other D44's so if you can find one sold for a Chevy it will work on your scout.

The spindle thread form is 1-5/8X16tpi (pitch).

While that spindle remover is a nice tool, ya really shouldn't need it. I don't own one myself and have never had need for one.

Once the hardware is removed, a few luv-taps with a soft face/deadblow hammer will break the spindle loose and it will pull right off for cleaning and bearing replacement.

Thanks Michael and Chris, I have taken 1 spindle off with out a puller on my 75 it was stuck! I had to chase the threads with a thread file almost ruined it. I borrowed a puller from another IH dude and 2 whacks with a slide hammer and it was off. Made life much easier, I have seen the puller socket anywhere from 15 to 50 $'s.
One socket fits many sizes of spindles

Thanks
Ron

ok Ron why buy a puller when you can make one. you can get a nut that threads on the spinde do a little creative fab up and youll have an indestructible tool for life. mine just has a piece of pipe welded on you can hit that with the BFH when on the trail and you aint got that lil soft face hammer. and it also acts as one hell of an equalizer when that rude ass yuppie jerkoff wants to bash on your binder. LOL

Ron you are correct! 1-5/8". I posted that from my cellphone browser and I kept hitting the wrong keys throughout. Thought I had corrected that but missed it. I HATE trying to text and email from the cell, I ain't no dam kid!

Sorry!

I'll edit my original post, DSL is back now.

Build it with at least a double nut it - so you don't over stress the threads and end up where you started

I too have never used one. Rubber mallet at home - small hammer and piece of wood on the trail. OR if you service them enough they just come off with a little wiggling.

Chris is right, use 2 nuts or get you one from a nut and bolt supply house grade 8 the nut on my homerown tool is over an inch thick.
I got the service kits at a local axle and driveline shop, dana parts for 25 bucks a side, had the nut kit with washers, bearing and the spindle seals.
