Default Dana 44, how do I identify?

I have a 72 Scout II. I have posted before trying to find a D44 front. I have still been looking. I found a guy that has a Scout Dana 44 front. He had purchased it for a jeep crawler, but didnt use it. How do I tell its a "scout D44", and not a Dana 44 that wont work?
Thanks-

Have him email a pic of it which you can post here. The differential must be offset to the passenger side (LHD) for prop shaft alignment. If you still have the stock spring under axle (SUA) suspension, then the spring perches must be on the bottom of the housing. These housings are commonly modified for a spring over axle (SOA) suspension which involves a cut and turn of the outer C's and relocating the perches to the top side of the housing. The measured distance from WMS to WMS would be good to have in your arsenal. I don't know what it is, but perhaps someone who does will see this and post up.

Ask for the BOM number...

Then look it up by searching for Dana 44 BOM....

Its a D44 with passenger offset setup for SUA. The only question now is the width, which can't be determined in these pics.

Nothing is definite. It's 30+ years old. Parts could have been changed/swapped, etc. etc.
It looks like it has Scout Knuckles.
But it could be from an IH pickup, which I think could be wider.

In order to be 100% sure about the housing itself is to get the BOM number & look it up. It will tell you what model year vehicle that housing came from.

A tape measure will tell you the width.

Yes.

From the pix it looks like its in ok shape.
However, plan on replacing lots of parts:
Bearings, (outers & inners)
Ring & Pinion, (do the ratios match?)
U-joints
Calipers (are they missing?)
Rotors & Pads

Wheel studs? (they look missing).

All above will cost you a couple of hundred to do... (Talk to Jeff at IH Only).

Depending on demand/pricing in your area, I'd say it's worth around $100-$200 for that....
